In light of the unforeseeable events of the recent past, I have become convinced that abstraction is the most appropriate means to address the issues now coming to the fore. The world of the present is itself abstract and surreal. Biological and mental environments are being profoundly damaged; fundamental values are dissolving, while fear and a sense of groundlessness intensify. Yesterday’s strategies are no longer valid today.
Through my work, I attempt to formulate questions while holding on to the sense of security offered by a classical value system. I seek escape into the realm beneath the skin—into subcutaneous tissues, into deeper layers where thoughts and emotions remain untouched.
The organic forms articulated in works created after 2020 evoke fictive material qualities, often suggesting repellent, unsettling structures. These are rendered through a meticulously layered painting process reminiscent of the golden age of painting. This dissonance constitutes the essence of the works and functions as a tool toward catharsis. While I am deeply inspired by classical painting, there are no direct references to specific works. Forms are born within the force field of the moment. The creative process is strongly spiritual and fundamentally unpredictable.
